July Mini Vacation-Kemah and Space Center

A couple of weeks ago I booked our hotel for a mini vacation to Kemah Boardwalk and Johnson Space Center southeast of Houston. (Thanks Jennifer D. for the suggestions!)

As the day of departure neared there was a very large chance of a good bit of rainfall predicted for the next couple of days. Since the weather changes dramatically from one hour to the next around here we decided to go ahead and take the chance that the rainfall would move on out.

We got VERY lucky the first two days we were there. It rained heavily on and off but we managed to avoid the sporadic thunderstorms while visiting the Kemah Boardwalk and the Space Center. On our itinerary,  I  had planned for us to visit the large City Park on Crystal Lake on our way back home.

On Thursday morning when we checked out of our hotel, it was raining heavily,  there was absolutely no break in the clouds, and there were many flooded roads so we had to skip City Park.

We couldn't complain much because we had been able to dodge the rainstorms up until departure day. We even got to enjoy the pool and the hot tub...something we rarely have time for when we travel.

Our first day at Kemah we walked around and took in the sights of the lake, rode the train, ate a late lunch, shopped, and fed the hoards of catfish.

The next morning we headed out to the Space Center...

Other than the 2 hour drive home in the blinding rain our trip was successful and enjoyable.

Sights Along the Way

This Independence Day and we spent the holiday celebrating with our neighbors until after midnight.

The next morning Toby woke up and suggested we take Bo to "Barker Springs" for a swim. I have to admit I was less than a smidgen away from saying no. Quite honestly, after our late night I was feeling a bit lethargic. I finally decided that I had the whole upcoming weekend to be lazy and I also felt like Bo needed a little reprieve from the firework torture he had to tolerate for the past few days.

Turned out I was glad I second guessed myself and agreed to go. We took a short hike down the portion of the trail from Barton Springs that we had not trekked before.

The skies were blue and the trail was mostly shaded from the afternoon sun. As usual the water was refreshingly cold.

Being outdoors always puts my mind in a different perspective and I came home with the sense of peace it gives me.

Here are some sights along the way....
