Old cemeteries intrigue me, so when I googled "Oldest Cemetery in Austin" Oakwood Cemetery popped up. I'd always seen it nestled below I-35 downtown when we would drive by and always wanted to see it up close and personal, so finally today was the day.
It's a beautiful, peaceful cemetery. We enjoyed strolling through looking at all the old markers and dates on them. Even when you're dead, you can tell who has money and who doesn't.
We first started out at the oldest section of the cemetery.....
This old gravestone has definitely seen better days....
As we walked through, we noted this would have been a perfect place for bluebonnet and wildflower photos, they were everywhere, but the bluebonnets were already seeding so they'd already lost their luster....
There were some houses with a back alley that backed up to the cemetery. Toby and I mused that it would be cool to live in one of those houses. There was a fence with some cool graffiti.....
As we walked through, I couldn't help myself from snapping photos, it was just so peaceful I felt like I just wanted to take it home with me....
I enjoyed this cemetery much more than I do the Texas State Cemetery.
