Walnut Creek Trail - North

Toby and I had a couple of errands to run today, but sneaked off to nearby Walnut Creek Trail - North End, for a little walk along the trail.

The trail is very nice, but not very shady so it's best to go during the cooler months, unless you don't mind being pounded by the heat of the Texas sun.

The head of the trail begins at Walnut Creek Park....

Pretty yellow flowers edged most of the path along the trail....

Bridges crossed over the creek....

The creek was mostly stagnant and not flowing at these particular points under the bridge...

Pretty red Salvia....

There were many splinter trails along the trail, that I'm pretty sure, led to some of the Walnut Creek hiking trails....

We came upon an apartment complex that had pathways that led to the trail....

The trail led on to another park, but we turned around at this point because Toby had to be at work and we still had to walk back.

This gazebo sat on the edge of the creek for a nice view....

It was an enjoyable walk and a nice break in a busy day.

Brushy Creek Trail

The other day we met up with Angela and her crew for a hike. I had never been on this trail before, and I was immediately attracted to the shady, nature feel it had.

We only walked a couple of miles or so before we turned around to head back so we weren't really sure where this trail led to, or if it looped back around.

It was an interesting enough trail that today I suggested to Toby we go back there with the bikes so we could cover more area to investigate.

The trail was semi-shady giving us a break from the heat...

We finally ran into a main road....

We stopped and enjoyed looking down into Brushy Creek from the bridge above....

The trail then circled back down up under the bridge.....

We came upon what looked to be an old train track trestle. It was really peaceful and I took the time out to stop and listen to the water flow on the creek and admire the old trestle while Toby rode on ahead.

It took me back in time for some reason, as if it reminded me of something from my early childhood, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was. I stood there and imagined the old train passing over the creek blowing it's horn...

The trail meandered along, but Toby had to go to work so we decided to head back and explore more at a later time. The portion we traveled was approximately 5 or 6 miles.

It's been awhile since we've been on the bikes and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Tonight's sunset. Very pretty...

Round Rock Chalk Walk

With Toby working back at Atomic, he has acquired a new work schedule, which includes Saturday's off.

I was pretty stoked about that. For most of our 9 years in Austin, he has worked weekends, so now we are able to enjoy some of the fun things that only happen on the weekend as a family.

Today we all went to the Round Rock Chalk Walk. It was a nice event and worthwhile...if you don't mind crowds, that is.

Here are some works of art I captured....

There was also food, booths, and characters I didn't recognize....

I couldn't resist the candy shop we passed by on our walk back to the car. I didn't get any candy, but me and Skye got a yummy pineapple, mint and lime drink. Toby got a candy bar, but I let him take a sample of my drink.....

It was a fun day, and I look forward to doing more events.
