July Mini Vacation-Kemah and Space Center

A couple of weeks ago I booked our hotel for a mini vacation to Kemah Boardwalk and Johnson Space Center southeast of Houston. (Thanks Jennifer D. for the suggestions!)

As the day of departure neared there was a very large chance of a good bit of rainfall predicted for the next couple of days. Since the weather changes dramatically from one hour to the next around here we decided to go ahead and take the chance that the rainfall would move on out.

We got VERY lucky the first two days we were there. It rained heavily on and off but we managed to avoid the sporadic thunderstorms while visiting the Kemah Boardwalk and the Space Center. On our itinerary,  I  had planned for us to visit the large City Park on Crystal Lake on our way back home.

On Thursday morning when we checked out of our hotel, it was raining heavily,  there was absolutely no break in the clouds, and there were many flooded roads so we had to skip City Park.

We couldn't complain much because we had been able to dodge the rainstorms up until departure day. We even got to enjoy the pool and the hot tub...something we rarely have time for when we travel.

Our first day at Kemah we walked around and took in the sights of the lake, rode the train, ate a late lunch, shopped, and fed the hoards of catfish.

The next morning we headed out to the Space Center...

ALL AMERICAN DIVE TEAM - Shows throughout the month of July
Other than the 2 hour drive home in the blinding rain our trip was successful and enjoyable.

  1. Glad you had a good trip. I had forgotten about the fishy-feeding-frenzy until I saw your picture. Very cool. Did they still have the place where you could pet the sting rays? Archie almost had his fingers sucked down into one of the sting rays' mouth which was super scary to him. This was before Steve Irwin died of the sting ray barb to the chest, so I wondered if it was still there.
