Sweet Home Alabama

Last week we made the long drive to Alabama to celebrate and early Christmas, visit family and attend Emily's baby shower.

It was a nice disaster free trip.

Our first day there everyone was at work so we took advantage of visiting downtown Mobile. Mobile has stepped their downtown up a bit in the years we've been gone. Still nothing to write home about, but if you know Mobile you know that any improvement was better than it was before.

Very small downtown compared to Austin and a lot of other cities it's size...

Me and Toby standing in front of the building we were married in twenty years ago...

The cruise ship in port....

We went inside the Cathedral. I've always loved the architectural beauty of this old church...

The Scottish Rite Temple...

Next, we went to the famous Peanut Store near Bienville Square and played with the squirrels....

Emily's baby shower was very nice. I'm so glad my sweet Lucas was blessed with such a nice family who just raves about him. Emily claims they love him more than they do her...lol

Me, Toby, Skye and Lucas went out for dinner and drinks then bowling that night while Emily rested from all the "partying" that day...

We also worked in lunch at the Bluegill with Toby's sister and her husband..

They day before we left Lucas took us to Bayfront Park. I don't believe I have ever been there before, it was really nice....

Beautiful Christmas Tree in the Battlehouse...

Lucas and Emily's pugs Boomer and Belle, they're a hoot...

And a big shout out to Bo who is the best travelling dog ever, most likely because we've always had to drag him along so he's up on all the travel etiquette...

It was a good trip, and we'll be there again in a couple of more months for the arrival of our new grandson.

  1. I am surprised you have never been to Bayfront Park I love that park! Seeing your photos makes me really wish I could have made it home while you were there.

  2. We should make a serious plan for that, brother. What better way to enjoy Mobile than with the person you grew up in it with?

  3. Wow, love the photos by the water especially, and the adorable pups too. And thank goodness you never bumped into an alligator!
