Salado

This week's weekly destination was Salado, Texas. It's known for being an "artsy" destination and one of the best small towns in Texas. It's also only a short drive from home which made it a good choice for a weekly destination.

After a quick lunch at Chipotle we made our way to Salado's Welcome Center to get some city information. A very old man behind a desk gave us a map and brochure of attractions in the area. Other than a lot of wine tasting shops, marketplaces, and art galleries I didn't see much else other than the Central Texas Area Museum that would interest ALL OF US.

As we were driving toward the museum we passed a bridge surrounded by some interesting looking shops. We stopped to check it out.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff has always been one of my favorite stories so I really loved the Troll and Goat statue at the head of the bridge.....

On the other side of the bridge there was an interesting bike fence....

On the way back to the car this YARN SHOP sign attracted my attention so we checkout the shops.....

Those inclined to spend money more frivolously will love these trendy little shops.

Once we got to the museum I was a little disappointed that it was closed even though the hours on the door suggested they should have been open.

Since we didn't really find much in downtown Salado to occupy our time we headed to Stillhouse Hollow Lake about 15 minutes from Salado.

We didn't have much luck there either. The lake is huge and one of the many entrances we found was the campground area. We finally found another entrance that appeared to be the boat launch area so we stopped there....

At the lake I spotted the prettiest patch of pink flowers I had ever seen. The color stood out vibrantly among the greenery. I had never seen these particular kind of flowers in Central Texas before so I'm not really sure what kind they are.....

It was still a pleasant day. Other than the bumper to bumper holiday traffic on the way home it was an enjoyable day.
