Chilly Biking

We woke up to another cold, rainy day. We've been wanting to ride our bikes for awhile, and we usually like to save our biking for when the temps are cooler.

It was so cold and gloomy that what I really wanted to do was go to Ikea (Skye needs a new bedroom set) and go to the movie theatre.....BUT, I really wanted to ride my bike too.

Soooooo....I finally decided we would brave the cold and moisture and take our bikes to the Southern Walnut Creek Trail.

I'm so glad we did, once we got to riding and generating some heat, we weren't cold at all.

The deer were out, and they weren't scared of us at all, they let us ride right through them and they just watched us.....

The creek was really flowing....

We rode eleven miles. We could have done more, but my butt was killing me. I really need to invest in some better biking shorts...

Last night, Skye and Toby went to the House of Torment. They had a good time....

Monday nights are our 'Friday Nights', and Toby's boxing practice was cancelled, so we treated ourselves to a purple margarita...

This was the best Chicken Enchilada Soup I've ever made. I got the recipe from out of the community newspaper. As you can tell, I don't think cilantro tastes like soap..

Sometimes Bo just has to be as close to me as possible. He would be a lap dog if I'd let him...

I WON!!

I got a call Saturday morning that one of my baby blanket sets had received a tri-color ribbon! I was really not expecting that at all, so I was pretty stoked.

My crochet is gifted or donated, so I was pretty excited that my crochet was finally appreciated for the value, time and love I put into it.

Besides the project that won a tri-color ribbon, I also entered four other projects that won a blue ribbon and one project that won a red ribbon. So, I guess you could say I made out like a bandit at the Guadalupe County Fair.

After we got home from the fair for newspaper photos (which I have not received yet) me and Skye made our yearly support visit to Crowe's Nest Farm....

We have a pack of coyotes who live behind our house in the greenbelt. We usually only hear them at night after sun down, but the other day they were yiping all day. Everything seemed to be triggering them...sirens, planes flying overhead, etc.

Seguin

Today me and my friend Robin took a trip to Seguin, Texas to enter some of our stuff into the Guadalupe County State Fair. Robin had canned preserves and I had crochet items.

It's the first time I've ever entered anything into a county fair, so I'm pretty excited to see if I'll get any recognition for my handicraft. If not, o'well it's not going to stop me.

About a year ago, Robin moved out to a plot of land in Bastrop where they built them a nice home. I love the idea of country living, but I'm a catch 22 because I also hate driving and inconvenience.

Luckily, Robin drove so I could site see. We passed a farm of gazelles. I didn't want to think about why there might be gazelles in Central Texas. They were beautiful to watch and bounced away when we pulled near to photo them....
 

Robin's dog Lucy Blue went with us. She's spunky and moves around a lot, so the photo I got of her was blurry...

Last time I was in Seguin I was a teenager, when I stayed with my aunt and uncle for a couple of months. I recognized a couple of things, and I really wanted to do a bit more exploring in the city, but we didn't have time.

We got to the fairgrounds and entered our projects....

After we entered our projects, we took Lucy to a nearby dog park to reward her for having to sit in the truck and wait for us. A dog park would be a disaster for Bo, but Lucy has very good social skills..

It was a nice day, and I enjoyed hanging out with Robin and having a little 'girl time'.

I will have to return on Sunday to pick up my items from the fair.

Mt. Bonnell

Today we visited an old favorite, Mt. Bonnell. The last time we were at Mt. Bonnell was about 10 years ago. Toby and I had remembered the steps up to the stop as being strenuous and long. We were surprised this time, they were a lot shorter than we remembered them to be, and our breath was intact by the time we got to the top. Toby even ran up them. We must have been in really bad physical shape back then. Moving to Austin and keeping active most likely extended our lives....

The views were beautiful, although a little more overgrown that what we remembered. The day was cloudy and very humid, so my pics probably aren't the best.....

We also explored some little trails at the top....

Next, we headed down to Mayfield Park and Preserve. The peacocks weren't very cooperative, but we did get a few pics of them...

They were doing some maintenance, so we headed to the trails behind the park...

We came upon this boat house. I could live like this...on the water in a small room above a boat house. Such a simple life. It made me homesick for a place I use to live in Alabama called Bayou Sara. Me and my ex were always out in the boat exploring the water ways. This place reminded me a lot of Bayou Sara...

We heard water falling, and it sounded like a large water fall, but when we got to it, it was small...

It was such a humid day, we probably would have dove in if we had found a place to swim. So we just cooled off with a nice beverage afterwards...

Later on in the evening, me and Skye sat out at the pool and watched the sun set. I'm relishing these evening sunsets, because I know before long I'll be in hibernation mode.

At one time, you could see the full sky line, but now the trees have grown so much they are taking away our view of the city lights....

Even the animals enjoy hanging outside with us in the evenings....

We have a couple of bats that stay behind for the winter. They like to come drink out of the pool at dusk. I'm thinking they must live in the tunnel close by. We also saw some lightening bugs out last night, which I thought was very unusual for this time of year. Oh yes, and the mosquitoes.
