The Past Week

Not much to really talk about this week. We had our standard park/play date. We tried out a new park this week. I have to say that I really liked the parks setup. There was your standard pool and the park rested against the creek and walking trails, but for some odd reason the park was overflowing with trash. We have never had this issue with any other park that we have been to.....but of course we were deep in Austin's shunned "east side".

It ended up raining right before we were leaving and we got soaked. Of course it didn't really bother us too much....we haven't seen rain in a long time here. :-)

We did get a little bit of rain this week....not too much, but more than usual. We had to stop school on Wed. to let Summer go out and enjoy the rain. I guess everyone else in the neighborhood was just as grateful 'cause there were some boys passing the football in the street in the rain and another homeschooling neighbor had her 3 kids out under the umbrella.

I have been spending most of my time this week socializing with the neighbors. I have never been too much of a social person. I have always been satisfied with sharing my own company but there just seems to be so many interesting people in my neighboring area that pique my interest.

I have never lived in a such a truly diverse place. I am not especially talking about race specifically, but different people from different walks of life. Everyone is so different here, coming from different places with different ideas, different beliefs, different ways to dress, living their life in totally different ways and actually getting along.

If ever there was a melting pot it is in my neighborhood....I love it. I believe you learn the most about people and life when they are most different from you.

I now look forward to the evenings when the neigbors come out and enjoy a little evening conversation while the kids run around being kids.

Of course it's getting cooler by the day here so it won't be too much longer and I won't be "hanging outside". I am enjoying it while I can.

It's hard to believe we are coming up on a year of being here......time flies when your having fun. :-)

  1. I am glad you are getting out and getting to know your neighbors. We have lived here for 2 years and on Halloween night we are inviting the neighbors over for a Halloween party because we have not met but 3 people in the entire neighborhood. time for that to change.
